Eugene Turns 150 Years Old

EUGENE, Ore. — Happy birthday, Eugene! Wednesday marks 150 years since the city was first incorporated.

To honor the occasion, the U.S. Postal Service is releasing a commemorative postcard and cancellation stamp. The postcard and stamp will be released at an event Wednesday.

The celebration will feature actors portraying Mary and Eugene Skinner, the city’s founders, as well as a storyteller from the Kalapuya tribe. The event happens from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Eugene Skinner cabin replica, located in Skinner Butte Park.

The birthday party will take place Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Hult Center. There will be music, entertainment and, of course, cake.
