“Memory & More,” specialized support groups for those with memory loss and their care partners, meets on the second Thursday of the month from 10 – 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 3550 Fox Meadow Rd., Eugene, OR 97408.

The group for those with memory loss is overseen by Michael Pace, RN, and a team of volunteers. Appropriate activities, exercises, and light refreshments are included, and a brief “life history” of the person with memory loss is provided by their care partner.

The care partner group focuses on specific topics, with professionals from the Eugene/Springfield coming in to share their expertise. On Thurs., May 8, John Urness, elder law attorney, will discuss advance health care preparation, getting documents in place, and estate planning. Future topics include “Care for the Caregiver,” “Nutrition,” and “Ask the Nurse,” with Tamera Drinkwater, RN. Barbara Passarelli, Community Outreach Specialist from ElderCare Resources, facilitates the group.

Memory & More “is designed to help you navigate the new land you now inhabit” when dealing with memory loss, through prayer, education, and the emotional support of others. It is the brainchild of Julie Brown, First Baptist Church member and former care partner with her husband who had memory loss, and is overseen by Pastor Colin Halstead. About the program, Halstead says, “It’s great to see people supporting and encouraging each other in similar circumstances sharing the comfort and perspective that their faith brings them in their common experiences and unique relationships.”
