In recognition of the 70th anniversary of D-Day on Friday, June 6, 5:00 p.m., Mike Pungercar will talk about his book about World War II airmen at the Downtown Eugene Public Library. Admission is free.
“The Promise Kept: A Story of Life and Death in the 91st Bomb Group and in the Eighth Air Force in World War II,” tells the story of airmen who flew for hours in unpressurized bombers, wearing heated suits and oxygen masks, at altitudes where temperatures fell to 50 below zero. The talk, like the book, will be illustrated with many historical photographs.
Says Pungercar, “Thousands of young Americans served in World War II, and today a thousand veterans of this part of our history are dying each day. We must not forget their sacrifices, their stories.”
Pungercar is a member of the Eighth Air Force Historical Society – Oregon Chapter, the 91st Bomb Group Memorial Association, and the Experimental Aircraft Association.
