EUGENE, Ore. — Lane County has put a halt to major events at Emerald Meadows.

The Lane County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to suspend large events at the park beginning in 2015.

Neighbors who’ve been fighting for Emerald Meadows are relieved, overjoyed and ready to get back to some peace and quiet.

They say the park is not the right place for large events and concerts.

And they were so happy about the decision a group of Seavey Loop neighbors got together to celebrate Tuesday night.

The decision to suspend events in 2015 will include the cancelling of the Dirty Dash and Faerieworlds.

This all goes back to the Kaleidoscope Music Festival eight months ago.

A number of neighbors voiced their concerns over noise and the impact major events have on the natural landscape.

“I thought gosh I can go back into the park. I can go back and enjoy it, and I feel a huge weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. I absolutely adore this park. And I moved out here to be so close to it,” said neighbor Anna Lawrence.

“I’m happy but mostly I’m reflecting on it shouldn’t be this hard for the people to be heard and to launch a public discussion,” said neighbor, John Helmer.

Smaller events, with fewer than 1,000 people will be still be permitted.

Commissioner Pat Farr was the only one who voted against the motion.

He said he hoped event organizers and neighbors could come to resolution that worked for everyone.
