EWEB Sends Crews to New Jersey

EUGENE, Ore. — Storm victims thousands of miles away will be getting some help locally.

EWEB crews will be heading to Newark, New Jersey to help restore power to the millions of people left without electricity after Hurricane Sandy hit. They’ll fly out of Portland first thing Thursday morning.

“Anytime there’s a nationwide call for help, everyone needs to respond and EWEB is in a position where we’re big enough to actually spare a dozen of our lineman to head over there,” said Joe Harwood, EWEB spokesperson.

EWEB says the trip wouldn’t be possible without the assistance of other electric companies in the area that agreed to keep watch here while crews are away.
