MEDFORD, Ore. — Police responded to an explosion at the District Attorney’s office on West 10th Street in Medford early Wednesday morning.

The loud boom heard around 4:30 a.m. was from a detonator on top of a propane tank. The detonator sparked a small fire, but did not cause the propane tank to explode. Investigators say if the tank exploded, it would have caused much more destruction.

The D.A.’s office has damage but no injuries have been reported. Medford Police say if the bomb had gone off, it would have been much worse.

Medford Police and several state, federal, and local agencies are actively looking for a person they saw running from the scene. A male was seen fleeing the scene dressed in black and carrying a flashlight.

Police set up a perimeter around the area. Earlier during the investigation, 10th Street was closed from Oakdale to New Town.
