EUGENE, Ore. — Hugs, tears and a welcome embrace at the Eugene airport Thursday night, as soldiers returned home following a lengthy deployment.
About six members of the 971st Transportation Detachment returned to their waiting families. Our cameras were there as the returning soldiers hugged those they hadn’t seen in a year.
The unit was in Afghanistan and was responsible for directing troops and supplies. One soldier said his unit did an outstanding job while overseas.
“Not only did we set a name for our unit, but we left a mark as well. So, mission accomplished,” says Sgt. Joey Vaughan.
The unit left Eugene in April of last year.
