Family Holds Toy Drive for Hospital

EUGENE, Ore. — A local family is getting ready for their annual toy drive happening Friday during the Willamette High School football game.

It’s called Jilly Bug’s Toys for Hugs, it and collects toys for kids at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.

The family started the toy drive three years ago after their daughter, who has a rare liver disease, received a life-saving operation at the hospital.

“Even though it’s a Portland hospital, they help local kids, so you would be basically helping a neighbor. A lot of people we know have a sister who was a Doernbecher patient or cousin or they know somebody who’s been touched by Doernbecher,” said Jennifer Beagley, the toy drive organizer.

Last year the drive collected nearly 1,000 toys, and the family hopes it’ll collect even more this year.
