EUGENE, Ore. – A fatal head-on crash on Clear Lake Road near Green Hill Road involved an SUV and an ambulance, Wednesday.
Oregon State Police says the woman driving the SUV died from the head on crash. The ambulance, from Eugene Fire and EMS, was carrying a patient when the accident happened.
Lane Fire Authority Chief Terry Ney says it’s a very emotional situation because a life was lost and the other vehicle involved was an emergency vehicle.
Ney says the Eugene ambulance was responding to a patient with back pain outside of city limits, which isn’t uncommon.
“It’s a very standard procedure. We cover calls in Eugene and Eugene covers calls out here. There are times when one or the other is low on ambulances so we just routinely go back and forth. It’s something we do on a daily basis,” Ney said.
OSP says the two paramedics and patient that was being transported in the ambulance were taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. All were being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The names of the people involved were not released.
OSP investigators will continue to figure out what exactly caused the crash.
