BROWNSVILLE, Ore. — Highway 228 has reopened after a fatal crash happened three miles east of Brownsville.
Oregon State Police say at about 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, 54-year-old Stephen J. Dyal, from Springfield was driving a pickup westbound on Highway 228 when he passed another vehicle on a curve in a no-passing zone and crashed head-on into an SUV driven by a 62-year-old woman.
The woman died and Dyal was taken to a Springfield hospital with injuries. The woman’s name has not been released. She was wearing a seat belt and her airbags deployed. Her dog that was in the car was not injured. Dyal was also wearing a seat belt and his air bags deployed.
Oregon State Police wants anyone who witnessed the crash to call them at (541) 967-2026.
Drivers were detoured for on Courtney Creek Road until about 2:45 p.m.
