Fatal Crash on Clear Lake Road

EUGENE, Ore. — One person is dead and three people were taken to the hospital after crashing head-on north of Eugene. The crash occurred early Wednesday afternoon on Clear Lake Road.

Investigators say the crash was between an SUV and a Eugene Fire ambulance.

The driver of the SUV died. The three people in the ambulance–two medics and a patient they had picked up on an unrelated call–were taken to the hospital.  The ambulance was on a non-emergency transport with no light or siren activated.

Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Lane Rural Fire and Eugene Fire are responding. OSP is investigating. The sheriff’s office says it is very uncommon for an emergency vehicle to be involved in a crash like this.

Clear Lake Road continues to be closed from Greenhill Road to Childers Road. No word on when it will reopen.
