LOWELL, Ore. — A crash on Highway 58 near Lowell turned deadly.
The crashed happened after 5:30 p.m. Monday.
Troopers say an SUV heading westbound crossed over the center line into eastbound traffic, hitting a compact car. The driver of that car, Lori Jean Mcnamara, 46, from Westfir, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV, Traci Lynn Akers, 38, from Sweet Home, and her 14-year-old daughter were taken to the hospital.
Oregon State Police says Akers was combative with ambulance workers while on the way to the hospital. They later arrested her for DUII, second-degree manslaughter, two counts of third-degree assault, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person.
OSP says weather was likely a factor, but it’s still investigating what else may have led to the crash.
