TILLAMOOK, Ore. — Oregon State Police is continuing the investigation into a single-vehicle crash Sunday morning.
OSP troopers say around 8 a.m. a Jeep was travelling westbound on Highway 6 near milepost 6 when it left the highway, struck a tree and rolled down an embankment into the Wilson River.
Two anglers heard the crash and called 911; when they arrived on scene they saw the jeep submerged upside down in the river. The anglers helped the driver Juan Getcemani de la Torre, 23, of Tillamook, get out of the vehicle.
Torre was transported to the Tillamook Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The Jeep’s passenger Atilano Vargas Sanchez, 43, of Tillamook, was also transported to Tillamook Regional Medical Center where he later died as a result of his injuries.
OSP troopers say both men were using safety restraints and the car’s airbags did deploy.
OSP is continuing to investigate what caused the crash.
