EUGENE, Ore. — The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating a fatal crash on Highway 99 that occurred over the weekend.
Around 12:45 p.m. Sunday, a silver van was traveling south along Highway 99W when the van lost control, crossed the center line and hit a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle, Kenneth Douglas Carroll, 72, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van, Veronica Avla Diaz, 28, and her husband Jose Cejas Gutierrez, 31, along with their three children were treated by Corvallis Fire and Monroe Fire personnel and released at the scene.
A silver Mustang traveling behind the motorcycle, intentionally drove off the road to avoid the initial collision. The 17-year-old driver of the Mustang was also treated and released at the scene.
There’s no initial evidence of drugs or alcohol being contributing factors to the accident.
