FBI Releases Area Crime Report

EUGENE, Ore. — Numbers from the FBI Annual Crime Report were released Monday and Eugene saw some positive and negative changes from 2011 to 2012.

According to the FBI, the number of rapes, aggravated assaults and car thefts went down while the number of robberies, burglaries and larceny thefts went up.

The Eugene Police Department says most of its numbers are in line with the FBI.

“For the most part the FBI statistics mirror what we have. We just count things a little bit differently in certain categories, and so there will be some discrepancies in the numbers and percentages,” said Melinda McLaughlin, EPD Spokeswoman.

There was one discrepancy. According to FBI statistics, there weren’t any homicides in 2012, but EPD says that’s because the FBI and EPD report crimes differently. EPD says there were actually three homicides last year.
