Feds Require More Transparency in Fees

Airplane(CNN) — The Department of Transportation is proposing new rules to require airlines disclose fees for checked bags, advanced seat assignments and other basic services.

Consumers would have to be told of those fees as they are comparing fares.

The rules would apply to both airlines and ticket agents, including search sites such as Kayak and Google.

They are among a host of other travel rules the government is considering.

Public comments on the rules is open for 90 days at www.regulations.gov.
