SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Two Springfield Police officers are recovering after they were injured in a fight with an armed man Sunday.

Police say it all happened at Jasper’s Deli on the 5600 block of Main St. Officers responded to a call at the location just after 9 a.m. and found Troy Minson, who had multiple warrants for his arrest.

When the officers tried to take him into custody, he began fighting with them. Police say the fight lasted several minutes until a third officer arrived and helped them get Minson into custody.

“He tried to break free. He was fighting with the officers, slapping at them, and actually kind of grabbed one of the officers in the groin while fighting with them. Basically he was trying to get out the door, he was fighting toward the door of the business trying to get out and hoping that he could break free from them and escape by running,” says Sergeant Richard Jones with Springfield Police.

Minson was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. He’s lodged at the Lane County Jail, facing multiple charges. Police say the semi-automatic pistol he had was loaded.
