LAKEVIEW, Ore. – Around 2 p.m. today, a wildfire broke out in the Moccasin Hills subdivision north of Sprague River, Oregon. Currently, the fire is reported to be around 75 acres burning on private land in heavy timber and brush and threatening structures.
The following interagency resources are presently assigned to this incident: 19 engines, one single engine air tankers (SEATs), two helicopters, three heavy air tankers and one air attack. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Four new wildfires were reported on Saturday, July 12, from a lightning storm that passed through south central Oregon on Friday, July 11. Firefighters contained these new starts to less than one acre.
Today, south central Oregon is in a red flag warning from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. because of anticipated thunderstorms. Reconnaissance planes, fire lookouts and fire crews on the ground continue to look for new starts.
