Fire Damages South Eugene Home

EUGENE, Ore. — An offensive attack helped fire crews save part of a south Eugene home.

The fire started in the kitchen of a house on West 31st Avenue a little after 9 p.m., and it took crews about five minutes to get under control.

There is smoke damage throughout the house.

Crews say scenes like these may become more common over the next few days because of the cold weather.

“Everybody need to be careful. Keep any combustables away from your heating source during this cold weather. This is a time when we can get the potential for a lot of residential fires because of that,” said Batt. Chief Bryan Smith, Eugene/Springfield Fire Department.

The fire marshal’s investigating the cause of the fire.
