Fire Engulfs Abandoned Springfield House

SPRINGFIELD, Ore — An early morning fire completely engulfed a house in Springfield, that neighbors say has been abandoned for years.

Just after midnight Thursday, fire crews responded to a report of a house fire off 42nd and Jasper in Springfield.

While most the house was fully involved in flames, it only took crews about five minutes to knock out the blaze.

The responding Fire Chief said the challenge was to enter the dilapidated house safely, because of the risk involved with abandoned homes.

Neighbors suspect transients started the blaze, because they’ve been seen going in and out of the house in the past.

The Fire Marshal’s investigation on the cause of the fire is still ongoing.
