Fire Near Sisters Grows Overnight

SISTERS, Ore. — The Pole Creek Fire has grown more than 4,000 acres since Tuesday. The fire has burned 22,000 acres, five miles southwest of Sisters, and was 20 percent contained as of Wednesday morning.

Residents in the Crossroads and Edgington/Remuda areas remain under a Level 2, pre-evacuation alert.

The Pacific Crest Trail remains closed between Trail #3531 and Highway 242; hikers can reroute by using the Scott Trail, west of Highway 242. Forest Roads 15 and 16, south to FS 4601 Road also remains closed.

Firefighters completed burnouts on the northwest corner of the fire, Tuesday, and worked to keep the fire within established containment lines on the south, east and north perimeters.

Wednesday, fire crews will focus on the southeast and northwest lines and are committed to keeping the fire west of Three Creek Lakes Rd (Road 16). Crews will continue to utilize air tankers, helicopters and engines to contain the fire.

A community update is scheduled for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Sisters Elementary School, to provide information on the fire.
