Fire Season Still in Effect

EUGENE, Ore. — The recent rain has helped lower the fire danger risk in the Willamette National Forest.

The Forest Service says we still have about four weeks left of the fire season.

The Forest Service Fire Management Officer Sean Stafford says there will be other fires, but they’re confident we won’t see any large fires like the Douglas Complex.

“There’s latent lightning strikes out there that are dormant because of the weather where when it heats back up next week we’ll see some more kind of single tree type fires,” Stafford said.

Stafford wants to remind folks, just because there’s less risk we still need to be safe with campfires.
