Fire Spreads Quickly at Eugene House

EUGENE, Ore. — Crews in Eugene were busy putting out a house fire.

The home is in the 200 block of Delta Street near Bushnell and Skipper in north Eugene. It suffered heavy damage.

Nobody was home when the flames broke out. A neighbor called 9-1-1 after seeing flames on the west side of the home. Fire officials say flames got into the air ventilation system allowing the fire to spread quickly.

“Had heavy fire conditions on the west side of the house on the exterior and had already gotten through the roof. Crews made an aggressive defensive attack from the outside. They were able to move inside and finished putting the fire out. They did a great job,” said Batt. Chief Matt Steinberg, Eugene and Springfield Fire Department.

He says they will try to pinpoint where the fire started and from there investigators will try to determine the cause of the fire.
