Firefighters Go Pink for Breast Cancer

CRESWELL, Ore. — October is breast cancer awareness month and an unexpected group is going pink.

Members of the South Lane County Fire and Rescue Team traded their navy shirts for pink ones for the whole month.

The division chief says breast cancer is more than just a women’s disease.

“I still think that some people think it’s not them, that it can’t happen to them, can’t happen to their wife, can’t happen to their mother or sister, and I’m here to tell you that one in eight women will be stricken with breast cancer during their life,” said Joe Raade, South Lane County Fire & Rescue Division Chief.

The American Cancer Society estimates it will see more than 250,000 new cases of breast cancer in 2012.
