Firefighters Stop Potential Inferno

EUGENE, Ore. — Firefighters were called to the scene of a Eugene lumber plant that went up in flames Saturday night.

Crews say material in an air duct caught fire at Rears Manufacturing off Prairie Road near the Randy Pap√©¬†Beltline around 9 p.m.. Thankfully, the building’s sprinkler system was in full force and prevented any further damage.

“We caught a lucky break tonight. The fire was reported early by passerbys on the beltline, and that allowed us to catch it in time and the sprinkler system kept it under control,” said Terry Ney, Lane County Fire Chief.

The building suffered an estimated $50,000 worth of damage. No one was hurt.
