CORVALLIS, Ore. — It’s considered the ultimate luxury food. A Perigord truffle made its first appearance in Oregon.
It was harvested near Corvallis from the oldest orchard in the state.
Initially, people were skeptical the truffle could be grown here because it’s too wet.
“In terms of our hope and our vision for having Oregon be the epicenter of all things truffle in North America, we feel like we’ve arrived,” said Leslie Scott, Oregon Truffle Festival Organizer.
The truffle is so valuable, retail prices sometimes get up to $1,5000 per pound.
