FLORENCE, Ore. — A Florence man was cited for crashing into a telephone pole on Highway 101, south of Florence Monday afternoon.
Oregon State Police say 76-year-old Charles Ruffin was driving northbound when he fell asleep, traveled off the highway and crashed into a pole, which broke and landed on his car. Crews had to shut the power off before they could extricate Ruffin from the car.
Ruffin received minor injuries. He was cited for failing to maintain a lane a travel.
Traffic was stopped in both directions for about 45 minutes during the investigation.
