Florence Police Chief to Retire

FLORENCE, Ore. — Florence Police Chief Ray Gutierrez has announced he is retiring. His last day will be Jan. 1, 2014.

He has been in law enforcement for 36 years, with 32 of those years in Florence.

He began his career in 1977 with the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, and then he joined the Florence Police Department in 1981. He’s been the chief of the department for the last two years.

The police department says Chief Gutierrez and his wife, Susan, plan to remain in the Florence community and he will continue his volunteer commitments.
