Florist Prepares for Valentine’s Day

EUGENE, Ore. — In preparation for Valentine’s Day on Thursday, a local flower shop says it has to triple its staffing.

For workers at Dandelions Flowers and Gifts, the most romantic holiday of the year is also the busiest.

Owner Shirly Lyons says deliveries alone that day go up 1,400 percent. So the shop not only hustled for extra hands, but room too.

“We have multiple work spaces because in our main store there just isn’t sufficient room. So we remodeled another part of the building. We have a refrigerated semi truck and a slightly embedded encampment outdoors. We use every inch of space that we can get our hands on,” said Lyons.

The shop says it will have at least 6,000 roses to fill orders straight through the big day.
