METEOROLOGIST MELISSA FREY’S FORECAST DISCUSSION:
The start to 2013 has definitely been far from normal! Wednesday’s high temperature in Eugene was 37°, a number that would generally be considered on the cool side for Eugene, but this was the warmest day we had seen in eight days and was the first day we made it above freezing in three days!
We’ve had 18 dry days so far this month, and only 0.56 inches of rain. If we didn’t get another drop of rain this month, this would go down as the second driest month ever recorded in Eugene. The driest January was in 1985 when we only got 0.31″ of rain. The second driest was in 1977 when we got 1.11″. It’s likely that 2013 will go down in the top 10, if not the top 5!
Speaking of rain, we do have some on the way. A cold front is nearing the Oregon Coast and will move east across the state Friday. We’ll see the showers begin Thursday evening, with the heaviest rain falling mid-day Friday.
Scattered showers will continue in behind this storm through the weekend and into Monday, which will change over to snow above 3,000 feet Saturday and 2,000 feet Sunday.
With more cloud cover overnight, we should stay in the low 40s tonight and mid to upper 30s through the weekend. High temperatures will make it back to the mid 40s all week.
Have a great Thursday!
