That’s why the Springfield Elks Lodge collected donations to fill 50 baskets full of food for local families.
Each one has 22 items, including a turkey, enough to feed a family for a week.
Elks members handed out the baskets to parents who couldn’t be more grateful.
“They’re so happy to have it, and a lot of times the parents are crying and we start crying, and it’s a really good way to get into the Christmas spirit and remember what Christmas is really all about,” said Springfield Elks Lodge member Brandon Mathews.
The basket handout will continue Saturday.
