Food & Beer Entice Runners in the Cold

dash and dineEUGENE, Ore. — More than one 150 people braved the cold Sunday morning, for race that promised a meal and fresh beer at the finish line.

The third annual Dash & Dine race started and ended at the Holiday Inn Express on Franklin Boulevard. Runners had the choice of running a 5k or 15k, and most of the run took place on the bike path along the Willamette River.

It’s one of Eugene’s first running events of the year, and organizers say people look forward to its unique qualities.

“Having the fun dash, with the two different distances to choose from, and then being able to have the wonderful dining experience afterwards,” says Race Director James Houghton.

Originally, organizers partnered with a local restaurant for the dine portion of the event, but this year they were forced to make some changes.

“[It was] previously held at Boulevard Grill, which has now, of course, been demolished,” said Houghton. “Hence the relocation of the start line out here.”

This year, the meal was served inside the Holiday Inn Express. Sporks A La Cart and Claim 52 Brewing provided runners with food and fresh beer after the race.
