Food For Lane County Cans Applesauce

EUGENE, Ore. — Food For Lane County usually spends its time collecting and giving out food to those in need, but on Wednesday they were making it.

Several weeks ago, the nonprofit got a donation of 10,000 jars, so it set out to gather 25,000 apples to make enough applesauce to fill those jars. They met that goal, so it teamed up with Sweet Creek Foods in Elmira to make and can all that applesauce.

“I just think it’s really cool how you see the apples that we were able to pick right off the tree, then it comes in and by the end of the time through the process it becomes a beautiful applesauce,” said Dawn Marie Woodward of Food for Lane County.

The applesauce will be available at Food For Lane County pantries and senior meals by November.
