EUGENE– For the second time in the three-game series, the Emeralds scored first. It took just two batters when 2B Jalen Goree doubled in Franchy Cordero to give Eugene a 1-0 lead. Ems left-handed starting pitcher Thomas Dorminy would allow a leadoff double to start the top of the 2nd. Boise’s Chesny Young moved to 3rd on a fly out to left and then scored on a pass ball to even the ledger 1-1.
Travis Radke relieved Dorminy to start the 3rd inning and was able to pitch around a two-out walk. In the 4th, the Hawks offense would break the game open against Radke. Following a leadoff single from 3B Jesse Hodges, Chesny Young hit a grounder to Goree at 2B that could have been a double play. Instead, the ball went through Goree’s legs and into right center setting up 1st and 3rd with none out. The next hitter, 1B Alex Tomasovic put down a bunt between Radke and Ems 1B Trae Santos that became an RBI infield hit. Shortstop Giuseppe Papaccio followed with a perfect bunt down the third base line and the Hawks added two more singles to total four runs in the 4th.
Boise would add another run in the 8th off of Colby Blueberg when DH Mark Malave picked up an RBI single and the score stood 6-1. Eugene’s offense showed life in the 9th when Jose Urena ledoff with a home run just to the left of straight away center field making it 6-2. Boise’s reliever Josh Davis would retire the next three batters to end the ballgame and give the series to the Hawks two games to one. Ben Wells took the win for Boise with 6 innings of 6 hit baseball.
