EUGENE, Ore– Friday is International Peace Day, and Eugene is celebrating with various events happening all day.
Mayor Kitty Piercy will issue a proclamation of peace at noon Friday, followed by a moment of silence.
There will be a “Linking Hands Across Lane County” at EWEB and area schools, with 8th graders from Hamlin Middle School walking across the DeFazio Bridge to Noble Peace Park.
At 1:15 p.m. O’Hara Catholic will place more than 500 “Pinwheels for Peace”, on the school’s front lawn. Each pinwheel is handmade by a student and includes a message of peace. “Pinwheels for Peace” is an international project that last year saw more than 3.5 million pinwheels spinning at thousands of locations worldwide.
