Furloughed Workers Get Free Gyros

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — One local restaurant owner is trying to help people currently out of work due to the government shutdown by offering them free gyros.

Anyone who received a furlough notice can bring it into Gyros Gyros in the Gateway Mall and will get a free gyro.

Restaurant owner Mohamed Jemmali says the shutdown is impacting more than just the people receiving the furlough notices.

“This is no longer painful for a few households because when 800,000 Americans are furloughed all at once, then it’s the entire economy that’s in pain, and that’s what’s at stake right now,” Jemmali said.

Jammali says he’ll keep offering the special throughout the entire shutdown no matter how long it lasts.
