SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Many drivers got a welcome and surprising sight Tuesday night. Gas prices dropped below $3 a gallon at some gas stations.
The $2.99 signs had many drivers doing a double take. According to GasBuddy.com, there are several gas stations offering the sub-$3 a gallon price. One of those is the Arco on Gateway Drive in Springfield.
“I am excited, and it’s about time, and hopefully it will just keep going down,” said one Springfield driver.
Another driver said, “I was comparing it to another gas station and this is 12 cents cheaper per gallon, so that’s a huge difference right there.”
AAA says crude oil prices are part of the reason why the gas prices continue to drop.
The last time the national price of gas was below $3.00 was the end of 2010. Currently it’s at $3.18 a gallon.
