Good Friday Earthquake 50th Anniversary

earthquake(CNN) — Today marks 50 years since one of the most-powerful earthquakes ever recorded.

On March 27th, 1964, a magnitude 9.2 quake hit Prince William Sound, Alaska.

The explosive tremor shook much of the West Coast of North America for several minutes.

One hundred and thirty people from Alaska to California died in the damage and from tsunami waves triggered by the quake.

According to the U.S. geological survey, the Good Friday 1964 earthquake was the second-largest ever measured anywhere in the world.
