Google Glass to Save Companies Millions?

(CNN) — Smartglasses might seem like a novelty right now, but the wearable gadgets could soon help companies boost their bottom lines.

Research firm Gartner forecasts that Google Glass and other “smartglasses” could ultimately add more than a billion dollars a year to company profits, starting in 2017.

The firm says smartglasses will help make employees more efficient, particularly in fields where workers need to use both hands to complete a task, such as conducting surgery or fixing a car.

Critics say smartglasses are being designed for consumers right now and aren’t ready for heavy-duty corporate work quite yet.

Companies will also have to overcome concerns about employee privacy and data security before rolling out the technology.
