Government Report Slams TSA Program

(CNN) — A government report is slamming the Transportation Security Administration program for spotting possible terrorists by observing passenger behavior.

The agency has spent more than $900 million on it, but congressional overseers say it has yet to prove the program is effective. It’s been 10 years since the TSA started the program.

The Government Accountability Office report says Congress risks wasting more money if it continues funding the program without scientific proof that it works. The report is the most critical yet pitting the GAO against the TSA.

The TSA has long believed that trained observers can pick out terrorists and criminals from the stream of everyday passengers. They look for behaviors that indicate stress, fear or deception.
