EUGENE, Ore. – The count down to the Great Rotary Duck Race is on and the big prize of the year was revealed Friday. A 2013 Volkswagen Jetta valued at $25,000 will be given to this year’s winner.
In its 26th year, the Great Rotary Duck Race will again help raise money to prevent child abuse in Lane County.
Burnell Ambrose of the Southtowne Eugene Rotary Club is one of the event’s biggest supporters and has been the top ticket seller for the past 23 years.
“Each year I’ll suggest they do a little larger gift than the year before. I don’t mind asking when I think of the children and their needs,” Ambrose said.
In 2012, 70,000 were sold. This year’s goal is to get 100,000 rubber ducks in the river, which equates to $500,000 dollars raised.
Tickets are on sale for $5 at the First Tech Federal Credit Union, Bi-Mart, Dari-Mart, Valley River Center and local Rotarian locations.
Other great prizes include a truck, jewelry, hot tub and shopping sprees
Tickets can also be bought at Friday’s event from 12-2 p.m. at Sheppard Motors on West 7th street. Attendees can test out the car and meet this year’s six recipient agencies.
