EUGENE, Ore. — It’s one of the most competitive races and one of the most beneficial for Lane County children. The countdown has officially begun to the Great Rotary Duck Race.
A couple hundred Rotary Club members met at the Valley River Inn for the kickoff event, Tuesday.
Money raised will benefit six local agencies, working to prevent child abuse and neglect. Jasper Mountain is one recipient; they serve abused children, ages three to 13 years old, with behavioral and psychological problems.
Jasper Mountain plans to use the money to add new classrooms to their existing school.
“We really are stepping on each other, and the kids I think will really benefit from. You know, the school’s going to have four classrooms, evenly spaced, nicely designed so it will be really good,” said Jeff Huston, Jasper Mountain Representative.
Last year, 70,000 were dumped into the Willamette River. This year they hope to have a 100,000.
The Great Rotary Duck Race is October 12. Tickets are $5.
