Group Donates Books to Housing Community

3-12 book donationEUGENE, Ore. — A group of local volunteers spent the day filling bookshelves at a Eugene transitional housing facility.

The volunteers from Soroptimist donated $3,000 worth of new and gently used books to Sponsors. These books will be used to start a library.

Sponsors houses women who were recently incarcerated and are working to transition back into the community. Those donating the books said there is something that will benefit everyone in the program.

“While folks are incarcerated reading is one of the few pleasures you have and so it’s a really good habit. It exposes you to a lot of things. It’s fun and so we just wanted to give something for everyone,” said Kathi Jaworski, Soroptimist volunteer.

The bookshelves are now filled with all kinds of books including fiction, non-fiction, and even children’s books.
