Group Waters Trees Around Eugene

tree pictureEUGENE, Ore. — An organization is out and about in the Eugene and Springfield area, after branching out of its home office in Portland.

Friends of Trees has helped plant and water trees all over the area.

Wednesday, it stopped at Irving Elementary in Eugene to help water some trees with students who helped plant them last season.

Organizers say this is their second season, and from just November to April, they’ve planted hundreds of trees.

“We planted 780 trees both neighborhood trees, which are found here in the public right of way, and also green space trees, which are trees we planted at Alton Baker Park and ODOT right of way land,” said Jennifer Killian of Friends of Trees.

In truth, FoT has had an Eugene chapter since 2011, incorporating the precursor Eugene Tree Foundation (which has been around since the ’90s). “After branching out of its home office” makes it seem like their interest in Eugene is recent, when they’ve been planting & caring for trees in Eugene for well over a decade.
