EUGENE, Ore. — Around 400 people spent Saturday afternoon beautifying Eugene parks. This is the fifth year the City of Eugene collaborated with the Church of Latter Day Saints for this day of service.
The city provided the tools and the local churches provided the manpower. The group worked on several parks throughout West Eugene and each person focused on a different task.
“They’re cleaning out the mulch, weeding, just making the area beautiful for the community and for the folks who come here,” said Whaanga Kewene, day of service coordinator.
Kewene said helping out in the community is important to church members, and that’s why so many people pitched in to clean up the parks each year.
