EUGENE, Ore. — Hundreds made their way to the Eugene airport Saturday morning for the annual 5K On The Runway event.
In an effort to beat the summer heat and encourage greater family involvement, this year’s event took place on a Saturday morning. Things got started with a pancake breakfast and an Air Fair, where kids got the chance to take a ride in a small plane. Event organizers say while this region offers a wide variety of running opportunities, this race has a unique aspect that sets itself apart from the rest.
Event Co-chair Blandon Ray says, “I’m actually a pilot myself and the whole reason why I got interested in it is was the novelty of being able to run out on the runway itself. I couldn’t pass that up.”
The proceeds for the event go to the Active 20-30 Club, the group hosting the event, along with the various children’s charities they support.
