EUGENE, Ore. — “Healthcare is a human right” was the message of a rally in downtown Eugene, Monday. Two groups, Physicians for a National Health Program and Healthcare for all Oregon, organized the gathering.
The rally falls on the 64th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations.
“We want people to contact their local and state legislators and let them know that they, as individuals, want health care as a human right, ultimately leading to universal health care,” said Mark Brauner, PNHP member.
The groups and several state legislators are working on draft language to amend the Oregon Constitution to state that health care is a human right.
