High Levels of Blue-Green Algae

WALTERVILLE, Ore. — Public health officials are warning of high blue-green algae levels found at Waterville Pond in Lane County.

The blue-green algae can produce toxins and be harmful to humans and animals. Swallowing, inhaling and skin contact with the water should be avoided.

Drinking the water is especially dangerous. Health officials say the toxins cannot be removed by boiling, filtering or treating the water.
