SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Two people are recovering after a head-on collision east of Springfield Thursday morning.
Oregon State Police shut down the highway near milepost 11 shortly after 7 a.m.
Police say a female driver in a Buick sedan crossed the center line, crashing into an SUV. Investigators are still trying to figure out why she lost control.
“Based on my experience in this area, a lot of time it’s a fatigued driver or possibly an intoxicated driver, which at this point we don’t suspect a DUII or anything like that,” said Sgt. Rick Hamilton, Oregon State Police.
Both drivers were taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend with non-life threatening injuries.
There were no passengers in either vehicle.
The road reopened about 90 minutes later.
