DESCHUTES COUNTY, Ore. — A hiker had to be rescued from the Pacific Crest Trail in Central Oregon after running out of water Sunday evening. Thomas Gradt of Eugene was hiking the trail with two others. When they ran out of water, Gradt stayed put while the others went in search of water. They didn’t find any and couldn’t get back to Gradt, so they called 911.
Descutes County Search and Rescue volunteers were able to use GPS to pinpoint Gradt’s location. He was treated for dehydration and reunited with his fellow hikers and family members.
